Vivan Sundaram
curatorial

An alumnus of MS University, Vadodara and the Slade School, London, Vivan Sundaram, was considered a figurative artist up until the 1980s after which he moved towards a more conceptually oriented practice, experimenting with diverse and semiotically charged mediums. Painting gave way to experiments with installation, assemblage, photography, digital media and film. Through his varied career, Sundaram's works have been informed by a political consciousness, dealing directly with social, political and environmental histories.

In his recent works, Sundaram assumes the role of curator or archivist, presenting the viewer with a mini-museum like array of carefully chosen objects, meticulously arranged to engage the viewer in an 'archeology of the recent past'.
